Shadow Of A Shade

Comes a train of little ladies
From scholastic trammels free,
Each a little bit afraid is,
Wond’ring what the world can be!

Is it but a world of trouble
Sadness set to song?
Is its beauty but a bubble
Bound to break ere long?

Are its palaces and pleasures
Fantasies that fade?
And the glory of its treasures
Shadow of a shade?

Schoolgirls we, eighteen and under,
From scholastic trammels free,
And we wonder - how we wonder!
What on earth the world can be!

A wandering minstrel I -
A thing of shreds and patches,
Of ballads, songs and snatches,
And dreamy lullaby.

Calgary Stampede Western Showcase

Monday, May 12, 2008 – 8:57 am

I have 2 prints accepted - Alberta Heritage and The Herd. There will be 2 canvas prints and 2 matted paper prints of each image available at the Stampede. As a kid who grew up surrounded by stories of the west and the Calgary Stampede, I am excited beyond words to be participating in one of the premier events for Western art in Canada.

Homefire

This was shot in Arizona while driving from Douglas to Tombstone. I knew as soon as I spotted this scene that it would be my favorite image of the trip. One of the things about driving in Arizona is that most roads don’t have much of a shoulder; so the roads aren’t conducive to stopping and taking pictures. There are many beautiful scenes that didn’t get photographed because we couldn’t stop. We lucked out that there was an area to pull out right where I needed it for this shot.

I’ve had two prints accepted for the Calgary Stampede Art Show and Sale in July. Unfortunately the opening gala is when I’m teaching at Olds College. It is at night though so I might try to make it down anyway. We’ll see.  I’ll figure out a way to get there!
